A Toast to Turmeric
Turmeric is all the rage these days. It's hard to find an Instagram health guru that doesn't tout the effectiveness of this mighty root. But here at Favor, we don't chase fads or follow trends; we focus on incorporating ingredients with real, impactful benefits. So, the fact that turmeric made it into our shot lineup should tell you all you need to know about its impressive resume. Here's the lowdown on what turmeric is and why we use it in our newest Restore shot.
In its natural form, turmeric is a root. However, it's more likely you’ve seen it as a powder and used as a spice in a dish. In addition to giving your meal a little kick, turmeric has been used medicinally for centuries, but only recently did scientific evidence start backing these traditional practices, leading to what can only be described as a turmeric craze.
The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which has potent anti-inflammatory effects. In addition to inflammation reduction, curcumin also possesses strong antioxidant properties, which means it can help your body fight against free radicals (no, not the ones you see on the news). The combination of these characteristics gives us the perfect centerpiece for a shot focused on recovery. Add a little tart cherry juice in the mix, and it’s game over.
When it comes to improving joint health, fighting inflammation, or bolstering your immune system, look no further than turmeric. Regardless of what form it's in, the benefits are undisputed--even Skip Bayless thinks so.
(FUN FACT: The main active ingredient in black pepper (piperine) actually enhances the body's absorption of curcumin, causing a synergistic effect when the two are combined. This is why each of our Restore shots includes about 1/4 gram of organic black pepper powder.)
